Trump threatens to bomb Oman if it ‘gets in the way’ of ending Iran war
Donald Trump threatened military action against Oman if it “gets in the way” of American efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and end the war with Iran. His remarks came as a 60-day negotiating period under June’s interim agreement expired without progress, with Trump saying Tehran would not accept the deal he considered necessary to prevent it from obtaining nuclear weapons. Oman, a longstanding US partner that is not a party to the conflict, has traditionally mediated between Washington and Tehran and is currently involved in discussions with Iran over navigation through the strait.

Iran shifts to ‘fully offensive’ posture as peace talks falter
Iran has warned that it could adopt a “fully offensive” military posture if diplomacy with the United States fails, sharply escalating tensions around the Strait of Hormuz. A senior Iranian official said Tehran was prepared to launch “timely and precise” attacks to break the US naval blockade, while maintaining that the waterway would remain restricted until Washington honoured the June interim agreement. The agreement’s 60-day negotiating period has expired without progress, with the Trump administration refusing an extension and disputing Iran’s interpretation of its obligations.

Two dead including gunman in school shooting in Southern Philippines
A Grade 9 student opened fire at a high-school campus affiliated with Ateneo de Zamboanga University in the southern Philippines, killing a Grade 10 student before taking his own life. Two other people were injured, while students and staff were evacuated and classes suspended following the attack. Authorities are investigating the motive and how the weapons were obtained, with one pistol confirmed as a government-issued firearm belonging to the gunman’s father, a Bureau of Customs police commander.

Russia says UK ‘will pay’ for supplying drones to Ukraine
Russia’s embassy in London warned that Britain would face “consequences” following reports that British-made drones had been used in Ukrainian long-range strikes inside Russia. Moscow accused the UK of deepening its involvement in the war and said its support for what it called Ukraine’s “terrorist machinery” would come at a cost, although it did not specify what action it might take. The UK Ministry of Defence did not confirm whether British drones were involved in the reported attacks but reaffirmed its support for Kyiv, including a £752 million package intended to provide Ukraine with 150,000 domestically produced drones by the end of 2026.

Eight Israeli airstrikes hit Syria’s Abu Al-Duhur airbase
Initial Syrian reports said Israeli aircraft carried out eight strikes on the Abu al-Duhur military airbase in Idlib province, although the targets and extent of any damage were not immediately clear. No casualties were reported, and the Israeli military had not publicly confirmed the operation at the time of writing. The airbase was captured by anti-Assad forces in November 2024, and the reported raid follows repeated Israeli attacks on Syrian military sites that Israel says are intended to prevent strategic weapons from reaching hostile groups.

An unclaimed strike on Syrian soil has added a new layer to the region's escalation. Four airstrikes hit the Abu al-Duhur military airbase in eastern Idlib early Tuesday, with initial Syrian reports attributing the attack to Israeli jets and the runway reportedly among the targets. A security source told AFP the out-of-service facility is guarded by Syrian Ministry of Defence forces, and no party has claimed responsibility. If confirmed as Israeli, it would be the first strike on the base since the fall of the Assad regime.
Based off recent satelite imagery, it seems that so far only the runways have been cratered. Geopolitically, this is a message to Turkey — Idlib has historically been closely under Turkish influence since the Civil War. Now how can I forget, the strikes happened HOURS after an alleged Turkish inspection.
Syria continues to be in an extremely difficult position and Israel knows this. Syria cannot attack Israel as it simply does not have the means for any kind of conflict, yet Israel may be pushing its boundaries too far. Sometimes we can assume that all military decisions are rational in the modern age of vast sources of information. Yet, as Iran continues to hold leverage over the negotiations one must ask what does Israel benefit from attacking an air base that sits within Turkey’s zone of influence.
And in Yemen, we have a continually deteriorating situation. The front between the Houthis and the Saudi-backed government is reigniting around al-Makha as we wrote about just a couple nights ago. Overnight waves of six ballistic missiles and four drones struck the Red Sea port city and Marib, killing at least four people, with port operations at al-Makha already suspended after days of strikes. Government-aligned forces said an earlier attack on Friday set fishing boats ablaze and hit civilian infrastructure at the port. The UN human rights chief has warned the country risks a return to full-scale conflict, after the Houthis' deadliest attacks in years killed 58 government troops, mainly in Marib province.
Kupiansk, per AMK
With attention fixed on other axes, Kupiansk has slipped from view even as fighting inside the city remains intense, and AMK notes that Russian and Ukrainian mapping has drifted apart with little OSINT capacity left to arbitrate. Drawing on soldiers' accounts and open source data, his assessment is that Russian forces continue to hold eastern Kupiansk despite Ukrainian claims otherwise, with any Ukrainian presence there too small to contest the urban area. From that foothold, Russia is massing troops and pushing south into Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi from several directions, so far with limited success. In the northwest, Ukrainian reinforcements have counterattacked against Russian infiltrations that intensified once the eastern districts fell, retaking the bakery, the high-rise blocks and positions near the stadium, which Russia is now trying to claw back from the centre. In the west and southwest, Ukraine recaptured the railway station and adjacent housing, while Russia took the administrative building and reached the central market. Small Russian groups are now infiltrating the southwestern micro-district and areas north of the station, and sustained drone, artillery, MLRS and KAB fire is blocking Ukrainian attempts to re-enter the centre. AMK's conclusion is that both official maps are wrong, with reality somewhere between.

On this day in 1590, White finally made it back to Roanoke Island, Virginia, only to find the whole colony gone. All 116 people had disappeared. There were no graves, and no signs of violence.
